Call me crazy as I'm sure my husband did, but I have always wanted a yellow laundry room. I began ripping out magazine pages to document my dream home when I was in high school and as far back as I could find in my collection of scrap pages all the laundry room inspirations were beaming with sunny yellow walls. I'm not totally sure why this color stuck with me for so long, but I do know that it makes me smile every time I see it. It's like a breath of fresh air in what otherwise would be a very mundane chore. The color I chose for this room is a color match from Sherwin Williams to Valspar paint in Summer Wish.
**As a disclaimer, I want to say that the second half of this post shows our laundry room in its current state. It is NO WHERE near being finished, but part of buying a first time home (or any home to the middle class American) is renovations that happen along the way. I would love to be able to show all the updates done, but that's not life.**
As you can see from the photos above, this room like every other room in our house was "builder's beige", but with one coat of the buttery yellow, the room began to immediately become brighter!
Here is the room with 2 coats of paint with minimal daylight! So much brighter!
We still have a long ways to go until we have totally tackled this room because the single shelf is not NEAR enough storage for our little family. Because this room has it's own outside door, I really want to make this a room to come in and out of easily during the summer after swimming or playing outside. As of right now, the door is covered by an old plastic hamper that needs to be replaced and a plastic 3 drawer cart to hold necessities like light bulbs, batteries, extra hand soap, Scentsy bars and plug in air freshener replacements. There is also an oddly placed broom/mop holder thing the previous owners installed that is currently holding our ironing board and dryer vent brush.
Here are some pictures of where we are now in the process:
Oh seeing the chaos on that shelf kills me!
Another great Pinterest idea. We keep all of our cleaning supplies hanging individually in an over the door shoe rack. I'm honestly not sure I see this changing until we use these products up as we find multi-purpose natural cleaners. So far we love all of the Mrs. Meyers products we've tried!
Although this cart works for it's purpose, it definitely is an eye sore.
Found this sign at Hobby Lobby and just couldn't pass up. This turquoise is the perfect compliment color to the buttery yellow. (Note: the yellow color would not show up properly in this picture)
And here is the odd broom/mop holder thing. I'm sure it comes in handy for some and it's worked so far for holding the ironing board but that's about it.
