My oh so girly dressing room

About 6 months after we moved into our previous rental house, I had decided I was finally going to make a place of my own.  A room that everything was light, airy, sparkly, and feminine.  I dreamed of a room-sized walk-in closet with a vanity in front of a window for natural light and always smelling wonderful.  This dream began with a simple vanity I had bought and restored at an auction years ago.  It was actually one of the first pieces of furniture I really spent money on...a whooping $45!  That piece has moved and been repurposed multiple times.  By the way, I would like to mention that repurpose was a word I accidentally created and somehow managed to spread across the country without me telling anyone but my grandparents.  Apparently someone else had a word collision as well creating the same word but spread it like wild fire.

Ok back to the dressing room!  When I decided I wanted a space to get ready and feel "fancy" putting on my make-up, I started with this vanity in our bedroom.  The problem with this was that I used to get up earlier than my husband so it was almost impossible for me to use it.  From there, it moved out of the bedroom to a nook/cranny along the wall of the stairway in our upstairs game area.  The problem with this was that we have a toddler...need I say more?  One day I walked into our 3rd bedroom which at this point had a dresser which held our office supplies and printer, an air mattress still blown up from the last house guest, and random things scattered on the floor waiting to find a home.  Looking around at the rarely used space, I had an epiphany!  Why not make this my dream dressing room?!  We obviously do not use this space often so there really was no reason not too.  Within a few hours, I had the room cleared out and ready to be "repurposed".  See what I did there? ;-)  Everything else just fell into place.  I had the vanity and little nightstand to hold my make-up, I found white laminate bookshelves on Craigslist for $25 for BOTH, and just needed to purchase the rods and brackets for my closet, a dress rack, and full length mirror.

Now how does this relate to our new house you ask?  We have four bedrooms!  The picture below is the realtor's picture of the room we chose for this project.
There was no question about the fact that I was keeping my dressing room.  Until there is a "crying" reason for me not to have it, I will be using that bedroom as my personal oasis.  The first step to this process was of course painting the walls.  After multiple trips to Pinterest, I decided on a very light, delicate baby pink.  One so soft that in bright light it almost appears white.  On our first trip to Sherwin Williams, it was the first color I picked out with the help of my princess/mini me of course. It's a luminescent color called Anemone.  On the swatch and in any drops that may splatter on your arms or clothes it appears as a cool toned white.  But after two coats have set and dried, it becomes the most beautiful soft, baby pink.  It is, in my opinion, the perfect girly pink.  However, it does take multiple coats...three in my case...

 First coat going on!
Yes, I now know that professional painters cut in first...thanks to my awesome daddy of Bruce Green Painting Inc. (Love ya dad!)

And there it is...the PERFECT pink!

Once the paint had dried and carpets had been cleaned, it was the first room to get furniture.  I moved most of the pieces for this room (including clothes, shoes, and the make up I didn't need over the next couple of weeks) while my husband was away at a military training.  Oh, have I mentioned I'm also a military wife?  Go Army, HOOAH! :-)  Anyway, I figured out of all of the rooms, this one was the one I could actually live without while we were transitioning from out of the rental house...although I really didn't want to.  So it began!  It took a little while to get everything set up and get the clothing rods hung.  You can see in the pictures below the process in action.

 Gotta love moving!
Waiting on the closet rods.  The explanation for the pool noodle will come later. ;)

On my next post I will show updated pictures of the dressing room and details on where most pieces came from (with links if possible).  Thanks for stopping by and come back soon!
