There comes a time in every woman's life where she just looks into her mess of a fridge and sees this...
AHHHH!!!!
Ok, maybe not every woman, but at least most of the woman on Pinterest who constantly pin images of beautifully organized refrigerators. Well I'm here to take you through the process of organizing ours. Won't you come along for the ride?
To start, you need to gather up your organizers of choice. I chose to splurge a little and go for the clear acrylic trays, bins and containers. I had tried out some of the handled ones that are white plastic, but I just felt like it hid more food than when the fridge wasn't even organized. Here are the containers we have collected for this project.
We have the following (click on image to go to product site):
-2 Glass Juice Containers (57.25 oz). We used to have the acrylic ones that BBB has but after washing them in the dishwasher they continued to get cracks in the acrylic (nothing leaked, just annoying). The lid on these has different "spouts" from full flow to sifted aka "pulp reducer".
Quadro 57.25-Ounce Glass Pitcher with Lid |
-21 count egg container with lid (BBB only has the 12 count and I love that this holds way more so I didn't need two of them)
Fridge Binz 21 count Egg Crate |
-2 large open bins (size 14.75" x 8.5" x 3.75"
)OGGI Bin |
-1 long skinny open bin (14.75" x 4.25" x 3.75")
OGGI Bin |
-1 medium open bin (12.5" x 6.25" x 3.5")
OGGI Bin |
-2 Linus Deep Drawer Organizers size 4" x 16" x 3 1/8" and 1 pack of 3 white plastic desk organizers from Walmart (any long narrow desk organizers will do, these go in the snack and deli drawers)
-COMPLETE Set of lidded containers (glass or plastic; preferably square) to hold leftovers, precut foods, etc. I say complete because using uniform containers will make a big difference on the appearance/organization. We have 2 of each of the following two sets for different purposes:
Rubbermaid Plastic 18 Piece Easy Find Set |
Store N' Lock 10 Piece Glass Food Storage Set |
We have been blessed that the refrigerator that came with our house has some what of an organized layout in that all of the condiments are able to stay on the side, etc. It just wasn't enough for us to continue to use all of the fresh produce I have been trying to keep in our house.
Most of these are from TJ Maxx/Marshall's/Home Goods. However, the Inter Design Fridge Binz brands can be found at Bed, Bath and Beyond, the Container Store, and on Amazon. I highly suggest checking out your local discount supplier like Marshall's though to save a good amount of money on the bins. The OGGI bins on the links for Amazon appear to be temporarily out of stock but you can find the Inter Design Fridge Binz at Bed, Bath and Beyond by clicking on the image below:
You will also need an all purpose natural cleaner (or vinegar+water mix in a spray bottle), paper towels/sponge, and labels if you choose to use them. You can refer back to my post HERE to find out how I make my fridge cleaner and why!
We are also very lucky to have another side by side refrigerator outside in our garage that holds most of the frozen vegetables, back up frozen fruits and frozen dinners in the freezer side and almost all drinks in the fridge side. This helps to keep our main fridge free from the things we like to keep stocked by take up a lot of space.
I hope you enjoyed the first part of this organizational adventure and as always, thanks for stopping by!
