I wanted to give you a full tour of the entry to our room. One of the requirements on our house searching checklist was for us to have a formal entry room. In every apartment and rental house we have lived in, we've never had a formal entry. The entry door usually just opened right into the living room.
My theory is that when you walk into an entry room, you really get the feel of the house and a feel of that family's home. I wanted everyone to feel like they were really "entering" our lives and get a feel of our home's style. So welcome, please have a glass of wine or a cup of coffee and stay a while :)
We haven't painted anything but the laundry room downstairs so every room is this weird builder's beige. Very blah and not very us but we are living with it until we decide on a color we like. I'm thinking something light and airy.
The antique dresser is just than, an antique. I believe it was originally my Meme's (and possibly her dad's), then my uncle Bobby's, then my mom's, and then mine and has been with me ever since. The two bottom drawers are the perfect height and width to house all of our DVD's...yes they are in alphabetical order...
The pumpkin patch sign has been there since Thanksgiving and will eventually be replaced by a large chalkboard I just picked up at Marshall's. We are also searching for a lamp to replace the stand in on top of the dresser. If you look close, you'll see things from our wedding.
The black chair is 1 of 6 that we inherited from the previous homeowner...we actually requested them and the dining table in our contract...and paid $1! We sanded down and repainted the chairs (see that post HERE!). Four of the chairs are in the breakfast area and the other one is with our desk. The pillow I found a couple of years ago at Hobby Lobby but I believe it's still available in the store.
We had asked to have the hand rail (behind the black chair) secured and well they did the minimal they possibly could and it's already starting to get wiggly again so it will be coming down soon and probably replaced by a black hand rail. We also will be ripping up the carpet on the stairs and installing hardwood sometime in the near future. The tubs on the landing are our make shift "doggy gate" to keep our small bladder basset from using the upstairs carpet as a potty...
Right above the first set of stairs, we have a beautiful picture of Bailey's first year in Preschool :) The frame I got a few months ago on one of the clearance end caps at Target for $4!
When you look at the door, you'll see this small table to the left of the door and a rustic mirror I also found at Hobby Lobby a few years ago. On top of the table is a picture that my maid of honor had out as decoration at my bridal shower, a Welcome sign Adam and I bought on our first vacation together before we'd ever moved in together, and a little white leaf that holds our car keys.
Inside the table is where we keep our dog leashes and their toys. They come running as soon as we start messing with this table.
On the right of the door is a wooden chest that is actually made by my dad out of repurposed cabinet doors. It was the first thing I ever learned how to stain and I have to say it came out beautifully! My meme made the cushion on it which is covered in a white satin sheet that was also the original cover to our headboard since the chest was in our room. I will eventually be recovering the cushion...more than likely in burlap :)
Above the chest is a signed frame from our wedding. The first time Bailey noticed it she said, "Mama you were a princess and Daddy was a prince?!" I love the mentality of a 3 year old.
Turning back around, we have a couple of pieces hung that we have gotten as gifts and the 1 Corinthians print I just picked up in the wedding section at Hobby Lobby. It's Adam's favorite Bible verse (and mine too).
A little down towards the kitchen and breakfast area, we have a wreath that I made to hang on the door for our wedding day. I seriously could not have asked for a more perfect day...ahhhhh...
So that is it for now. Like I mentioned earlier, we will be repainting and making a few changes to this area but so far I'm loving having this little room.
I hope you enjoyed this room tour, and as always, thanks for stopping by!
