Here is what you need:
- Chalkboard Paint
- Brush
- Painter's Tape
- Chalk
- Glass jars of choice (not shown in picture but ours are from Home Goods and Target)
Here is what you do:
1) Make sure there is no oils or dust on your jar. If you clean them with a liquid cleaner (like Windex), make sure to let them dry for at least 30 minutes so there isn't any cleaner under your paint.
2) Tape out the shape you want your label. Using your painter's tape, create the shape you want your labels to be on your jars. Shapes with corners will obviously be easier :) Our jars have a raised square on the sides so it was a natural marker for where to place the tape.
3) Paint 2-3 thin coats of paint. Using your brush, paint 2-3 thin coats of paint inside the tape with a dry time of about 20-30 minutes between each coat. Taping allows you to not have to be super careful, but you want to make sure not to go outside the tape. TIP: Before painting each coat, run your finger along the edge of the tape to ensure a good seal.
5) Remove the tape. After you've let it dry and the paint is thick/dark enough for what you want, carefully remove the tape by pulling away from the jar at a slight angle with even pressure and leaving a finger along the edge of the paint. This ensures you don't pull up any of the paint. PS the corners are the trickiest, just be careful.
6) Rub a piece of chalk over your label. When using chalkboard paint, you MUST rub a piece of chalk over the entire area of paint before writing anything on the paint. This coats the paint so when you do write/draw on the label it doesn't "stain" the paint.
7) Wipe away the chalk. Using a dry papertowel or cloth, gently wipe away the chalk you just rubbed on the painted label.
I hope you enjoyed this DIY, and as always, thanks for stopping by!
