Yep, spray paint! I have two gold mirrored candle sconces that I want to hang but they are supposed to be hung by this tiny circle hanger from the top of the sconce. If I just hammered a plain ol' silver nail in the wall it would be totally visible and not match at all.
So I grabbed the same gold spray paint that I used for the tutorial on my desk knobs and pulls and on the pharmacy lamp and gave these nails a quick coat. It only really took one thin coat of paint and I let them dry for about 2 hours before I used them. I wanted to make sure that when I hammered them in, the head of the nail didn't get scratched.
As you can see from these photos, it still shows but now it actually matches and sort of blends in with the hanger from the sconce.
As I used gold because it was the color to match the sconces, this could be done with any color. Just match it up to your wall color to blend it in or match it to the item your hanging.
