Navy Guest Room Part 1: The Paint

When we first started looking for a house to purchase we knew we'd need 4 bedrooms...a master, Bailey's room, my dressing room, and a guest bedroom.  After we closed on our house, the paint choose for the guest bedroom was third to be picked out (after my dressing room and Bailey's room).  It's a beautiful deep navy from Sherwin William's called Loyal Blue (SW 6510).

PS. I apologize for the grainy pictures below.  I took them with my cell phone and what little natural light we had because we hadn't installed the ceiling fan light kit yet. :(

Here are my tips when painting with this SUPER deep color:

  1. Make sure to use the deepest grey primer P6 (from SW).  With no primer, the color is a very thin glassy navy blue.  Our store was out of the P6 primer, so we went with a P5 and added some black and we still needed 2 (and could've standed 3) coats of the navy to make everything even.
  2. Tape all of your baseboards and ceiling/crown molding.  Because this paint is so deep and pigmented, it is thinner than a normal light color so it tends to bleed or run.  It's not a major concern though if you tape.
  3. Make sure to use a drop cloth to cover your floor.  Same reason as number 2 above.
  4. Look at all the walls with natural light (if possible) and light from the room.  Again because it's thin, it does tend to be a bit streaky so make sure to check multiple times before putting everything away and being done.
Overall, I LOVE the color on the wall and am so ready to find the bed frame we want so we can really start putting the room together.

I will be posting an update on this room soon once I get some time to clean up a little and get some better pictures up!

I hope you enjoyed this painting adventure, and as always, thanks for stopping by!
