Here is what the playroom looked like once we moved in BEFORE paint and a furniture rearrange.
As you can see, that weird beige paint color does NOTHING for this room and really makes everything look drab and dreary. So here's what the playroom looks like now that we have painted and moved all her furniture and toys back in the room. We also rearranged the furniture slightly which really opened up her room.
View from the front entry. I had some help in making sure her playroom was picked up for pictures from my little ballerina :) And of course the Punkin!
Window walls which curtains actually stay closed for privacy because this looks out to the street in front of our house.
Letter art that Bailey made at school. We plan on creating more of these over the summer.
"Gross motor" corner :) My husband and I are now true believers that EVERY 3 year old should have a rocking chair (not shown) and a mini trampoline. It has been a life saver on those days that she has so much energy but for some reason or another she can't go outside. I also hung a nail to hold her hula hoop and collapsible tunnel. The big softball on the floor is a blow up ball that we use for lots of different games.
This is a 3x3 white cubby shelf from Target on top of the bench cubby shelf you might remember from the original Barbie house project here. Her Barbie house is now in her room and actually looks much different that this. I'll be doing an updated look at that soon! For now if you want to check out her room, click here!
On the 3x3 shelving system she has:
- Playdoh, Princess Playdoh castle and Little Mermaid purse, stickers art supplies and blocks (that's where she wanted to blocks right before I took the picture)
- Busy books (with her sunglasses), interactive books (the rest of her books are in her room), games
- Coloring books and crayons, Megablocks, puzzles
In the bench cubby shelf on the bottom she has:
- Musical instruments, random educational and fine motor activities, baby stuff (under the baby's books*)
*Tip: Don't toss those tiny books you get in kid's meals! They are great to include with baby doll stuff!
The daybed is another piece built by my awesome dad! It was designed after this daybed from Pottery Barn. Above the daybed we are eventually going to frame and hang the posters we made for Adam's Welcome Home party from his last deployment. And of course the friends on the bed have to be her red heads :)
Inside the drawers on the daybed are:
- Older kid/adult games and photo albums
- Golf and bowling sets on top of the balls from her old ball pit
- A few more games, quilts and the camera/video camera
I apologize for the fuzziness...I really don't have a great camera for taking pictures yet :(
This wall used to house a gigantic TV but we gave it away on Craigslist because we thought it was broken...apparently we just didn't look close enough and a cable wasn't connected right. Now it holds an antique birdcage that holds her almost antique TV with the cable box, DVD play and Wii system.
Next to the TV is her art easel. We leave her pink art apron hanging on the side for easy access. I put the extra round containers mentioned from my baking storage post here in those little cup holders to hold paint.
We moved her kitchen to the opposite wall looking into the dining room. I have toyed with the idea of painting her kitchen but it's still in such good condition I hate to mess with it and it not turn out well. On top of her kitchen is the flag we flew in our first apartment which has been folded next to her horse and Aggie football. The flag hanging on the wall was flown in Afghanistan by Adam's unit the day she was born. The sign next to it is the commemorative plaque to document the flag.
We also keep all her baby stuff next to her kitchen and all the extra big things (hanging table high chair, car seat, changing pad, etc). In the center of the playroom is this table and two of these chairs from Ikea (KRITTER collection). LOVE THEM!
Even the spots above the entries get some love (sign and metal guitar from Hobby Lobby).
Next to the couch we hung a metal drip pan I got from Walmart that we spray painted with chalkboard paint. It's just drilled straight into a stud and hasn't moved a bit. I hung a magnetic office organizing basket from TJ Maxx on the bottom of the "chalkboard" to hold her magnetic letters. It's hard to see because it's also black :)
Next to the "chalkboard" is the second bench cubby shelf. On top is the Little People Disney Princess castle and her puppy in his carrier. These benches are perfect height for things like this castle because she doesn't even have to get it down to play with it.
In the cubbies on the shelf she has:
- Mr. Potato Head
- Princess Legos
- Pieces/Princess for Little People castle, miscellaneous small toys to use with the castle like the Disney character sets which she loves
I did not link to a lot of the items in this room so if you have any questions where I got something please comment below and I'll get back to you ASAP!
I hope you enjoyed this room tour, and as always, thanks for stopping by!
