Top 10 DIY Reno Tools for the First Time Homebuyer

Welcome to Day 3 of the Top 10 Favorites for the First Time Homebuyer series!  Here's the links if you haven't checked out Day 1: Top 10 Everyday Tools and Day 2: Top 10 Lawn and Garden Tools.  Today's post, as you can tell by the title, is all about our Top 10 tools for DIY renovations and projects.  These are the extra tools that we really feel have been beneficial as we have tackled different projects and begin into our renovations.  Neither my husband nor I are masters of any of these tools, but we learn how to better use them each time we do.  So let's get started!

Like on the other posts, these tools are not listed in any particular order.  I also want to apologize that this post does not have pictures.  Unfortunately the day got away from me before I got a chance to take pictures of our tools and then we had to deal with our A/C going out...and luckily coming back on thanks to my husband realizing to check the breaker.
  1. Spray Paint.  I use this "tool" more than probably any other tool we own.  Whoever invented spray paint was a genius!  Check here to find out more about my favorite kind!  (Note: The initial link to Lowes.com is to a green color but there are plenty more for this brand!)
  2. Paint Roller, Brushes, Pan and Plastic Covers.  Essential tools when deciding to paint a room. Purdy is our go to brand and can be bought for sure at Lowes and Sherwin Williams.  I love the plastic pan covers too.  I tried the DIY foil on the paint pan but I didn't like it for multiple reasons.
  3. Electric Palm Sander.  This was the first power tool we ever bought :)  We actually had this before we had our good cordless drill.  I love our Porter Cable sander!
  4. Pliers.  Essential.  Just get a good set of multiple pliers and you will be good to go.
  5. Wrenches. Again, essential.  My dad got me a boxed set that came with wrenches, pliers, screwdriver and bits, and sockets.  I like that they stay organized and any time we need something we just go straight to the set.
  6. Level.  Sadly, this is something we just purchased.  We hadn't totally needed it yet, but it was on the top of our purchase list for the next trip to Lowes.
  7. Staple Gun .  For beginners and simple DIY's, we really haven't needed more than a light staple gun.  Since we will be soon purchasing the next tool, we won't be getting anything heavy duty either.
  8. Brad Nailer.  We will be purchasing this soon...very soon. :)  This is great for all those projects that involve a little more than a staple gun or need something to shoot farther in...like crown molding.
  9. Jig Saw.  Ours came in Adam's Porter Cable Set and we have used it a few times already.  It's great for small details and free hand cuts.
  10. Circular Saw.  Again another part of Adam's Porter Cable Set and he's used it to cut the left over lumber in our yard to work on building a in door doggie gate and fix the front face of my square foot garden.  It's light and portable, so perfect for the at home DIYer.
I hope you enjoyed Day 3 of the Favorites for First Time Homeowners series and all of the days for that matter, and as always, thanks for stopping by!
